In 1919, the Ministry of Public Works made the Central Laboratory responsible for all referring to sands with respect to the evaluation of tensile and compressive strengths of cement mortar. After 1956, the then Technical Institute of Construction and Cement took over the preparation and supply of this type of Spanish sand. Presently, these sands are still being prepared in a modern complex consisting of an installation in Segovia and the sand plant located at the lETcc.
