Dear authors and readers:

Last year Materiales de Construcción undertook a significant change in format that we believe has contributed to the journal's modernisation and internationalisation. Now published as an on-line, English language quarterly, it also sports a new layout. According to the information gathered to date, all these changes have been valued very highly by our authors and readership.

This year the journal's Editorial and Advisory Boards have been renewed. Their current membership is listed on our website: http://materconstrucc.revistas.csic.es/index.php/materconstrucc/about/editorialTeam. Our sincere thanks go to each and every one for accepting a position on these boards and for their willingness to help Materiales de Construcción continue to raise its quality indices and honour its commitment to scientific and technological research on construction materials. The new Editorial Board has resolved to continue with the improvement of the journal's visibility and internationalisation. With that in mind, we are putting every effort into updating and empowering our editorial management system, enlisting the assistance of Editorial CSIC/FECYT (Spain's National Research Council Federation of Science and Technology, respectively). Having been awarded those publishers’ Certificate of Publishing Excellence, Materiales now qualifies for access to their Open Journal System (OJS). Authors wishing to publish in the journal will be duly notified of any changes the new system may entail. We are persuaded that the introduction of this new approach will redound to readier and more nimble administrative procedures and improve the journal's national and international image.

By way of a brief summary of the journal's vital statistics in 2014, 92 articles were submitted, in 54 of which the authorship included experts from American, Asian and other European countries. The rejection rate was over 50%. The four issues released (313 to 316) included a total of 39 scientific papers and, according the Web of Science database, articles published in Materiales de Construcción received 300 citations in 2014.
