The present paper deals with the influence that the addition of calcareous "fillers" to a Portland cement has on the mechanical resistances of its mortars. Taking as a basis a Portland cement to which calcareous "fillers", from 0 up to 50 percent, are added, test tubes of standardized mortars were prepared. After 7, 28 and 90 days of curing, the test tubes were submitted to breaking following flexotraction and compression; their mechanical resistances were then determined and a correlation between these and the contents of calcareous "fillers" was established. An X-ray diffracting study was also carried out on the mortars obtained.
