The European Standard EN 197-1:2000 for Cement, prepared by CEN/TC 51, is from now (2002-04-01) onwards, compulsory in all the countries of the European Union. It has been considered suitable to expose some details on the historical development of the steps and difficulties during the elaboration of the standard ENV 197-1:92 first, and of the present and final standard EN 197-1:2000 already in force, and now in Spain as Spanish Standard AENOR/UNE-EN 197-1:2000 (1).
